Can you fill 8 courses in 60 days with zero paid media history? Yes. Here's how.
How RocketSauce Media Labs built an enrollment engine from scratch for a leading public health university — and generated $74,400 in course sales in under two months.
Every performance marketing pitch promises data-driven results. Far fewer teams can point to a campaign where the data didn't exist yet — and they built it, launched it, and turned it into revenue in under two months.
That's the challenge this university brought to RocketSauce Media Labs. It's also exactly the kind of situation where our team does its best work: no playbook, a hard deadline, and a client that needs proof its investment will pay off — not months from now, but in real time.
The challenge: zero history, hard deadline
The university needed to fill eight professional development courses — everything from Successful Scientific Writing to Applied Public Health Informatics — within 60 days. That timeline alone would be tight for any team. What made it harder was the starting point:
- No creative benchmarks to build from
- No established channel strategy
- No prior paid media history to learn from
- No existing way to connect ad spend to actual course revenue
In other words, there was no playbook. Just a deadline, eight courses, and a university that needed to know its investment would return real enrollments — measurably, and fast.
Our approach: build the intelligence while running the campaign
Instead of treating the lack of history as a limitation, we treated it as a design problem. We built a live, data-driven performance system that could learn and adjust as it went.
Precision channel testing from day one. We split the budget 50/50 across Meta and LinkedIn — not because that's a default, but because it let us find out, with real numbers rather than assumptions, where professional audiences in the public health space actually convert.
Creative testing baked into every course. All eight courses ran live A/B tests comparing image-overlay creative against text-only creative, so we weren't optimizing on a hunch about what "should" perform.
Revenue-connected optimization, mid-flight. As enrollment data came in, we integrated it directly into the campaign — connecting revenue back to spend at the individual-course level, not just by channel, and shifting strategy accordingly instead of waiting for a post-mortem.
Bi-weekly reporting tied to enrollments, not vanity metrics. Impressions and clicks are useful diagnostics, but the client needed to know which dollars turned into seats filled. So that's what we reported on.
What the data told us
Once the campaign was live, patterns emerged fast — and we let them drive decisions rather than defend a preset plan.
Meta drove the volume. Of the 146+ total leads generated, Meta delivered 93% — a share that reshaped how we allocated spend as the campaign progressed.
LinkedIn earned its keep differently. Even with far fewer leads, LinkedIn delivered efficient brand-scale reach at a lower, more efficient CPM (cost per thousand impressions) of $8.90 against a $14.30 blended average — proof that a channel doesn't have to top the leaderboard on leads to be worth the spend.
Creative format mattered by course, not universally. In head-to-head testing, plain text ads actually out-produced image-overlay creative on total lead volume in several segments — a reminder that "best-practice" creative isn't the same for every audience or every course.
The results: by the numbers, over the full flight
| Metric | Result |
|---|---|
| Total impressions | 3M+ |
| Blended CPM | $14.30 |
| Leads generated | 146+ |
| Total course sales | $74,400 |
Why it adds up
A $14.30 blended CPM across 3M+ impressions produced 146+ leads and $74,400 in course sales — with LinkedIn delivering brand-scale reach at an even more efficient $8.90 CPM. Every dollar traces to the outcome it drove.
"We didn't just run ads — we built the intelligence, infrastructure, and proof of concept needed to scale with confidence."
Why this case matters: running media vs. running a performance system
That's the real difference. This university didn't just fill eight courses in 60 days. It walked away with a validated, course-level playbook: which channels to trust, which creative formats to test first, and which programs are primed to scale.
The infrastructure outlasts the campaign. The next flight doesn't start from zero — it starts from evidence.
Not every client comes to us with years of campaign data and a mature attribution model. Most come to us the way this university did — with a goal, a deadline, and a gap where the strategy should be. That's exactly the kind of problem RocketSauce Media Labs is built to solve: build the measurement, run the test, follow the data, and tie every dollar back to a real outcome.
